Aoki Shigeru Retrospective Exhibition

5 October [Tue] - 31 October [Sun], 1954

About this exhibition

78 works from our collection, showcasing in particular A Gift of the Sea and Paradise Under the Sea. The first postwar retrospective of Aoki's art, it traced connections among his surviving works. The exhibition also included two Saturday lectures. The instructors for the first were Aoki's orphaned son, the musician Fukuda Rando, and Aoki's friend the artist Masamune Tokusaburo; the instructor for the second was Kawakita Michiaki, who had continued to conduct research on Aoki since before World War II.
