拡大《Reclining Nude》

KOIDE Narashige

《Reclining Nude》

1930  Oil on canvas

With support from a patron, Koide Narashige opened an atelier in Ashiya in 1926 and gradually focused on nudes, which he had begun painting five years earlier. Koide, who was not in good health, rarely painted landscapes outdoors but made the nude, standing or reclining, his main subject during the five years until his death in 1931. The back and buttocks of this nude lying on her side suggests the interest in spherical forms that Koide expressed from childhood. This picture plane, composed of a carpet Koide loved and a bed, combines his creative sensibilities both sensual and pure.
