About this exhibition

The Artizon Museum presents a selection of iconic works from the Ishibashi Foundation Collection for your viewing pleasure. In the 5F Gallery, The Impressionists: Tales of Painterly Friendships introduces the museum’s Impressionist collection. The Impressionists, who were active in nineteenth-century France, had strong bonds of friendship. The young Cézanne, for example, would line up his canvas with Pissarro’s to paint beside him, looking up to him like a father. Caillebotte even had Renoir serve as the executor of his will. In this exhibition, stories of the artists’ friendships provide insights on new ways to enjoy these Impressionist masterpieces. The 4F Gallery’s special section, France and Wine in the 20th Century, in Illustrated Books, introduces illustrated books from the twentieth century on the theme of wine and spirits. The exhibition also includes outstanding examples of modern and contemporary masterpieces in the Ishibashi Foundation Collection.
