Biography
Marie Laurencin
arie Laurencin (1883-1956) studied at the Académie Humbert and then began her career as a Cubist painter. In 1914, she married a German baron and automatically acquired German citizenship. Thus, when World War I began, she was compelled to seek asylum outside of France. In 1920, she chose divorce. Returning to Paris, she achieved success at a solo exhibition in 1921. She lived almost entirely in Paris, even after the outbreak of World War II, and continued creating there until her death, at seventy-two, in 1956.Exhibition overview
