The Artizon Museum Learning Program

The Artizon Museum, in addition to introducing works of art through its exhibitions, offers a wide variety of programs to enable people to enjoy art, and this museum, more fully. The Saturday Lectures have been held since the Bridgestone Museum of Art opened in January 1952. With specialists in many fields invited to instruct, this ongoing series of art classes has been held over 2,300 times since the museum’s opening. Our Gallery Talks feature curators introducing exhibitions and our collection directly, while participants view the works in our galleries. Family Program is directed at families with elementary-school-aged children. With quizzes and games held in the galleries, it seeks to make the museum a familiar, friendly place for children and families.Our School Days make use of the museum’s regular closing days to provide talks and tours for school groups, while the School Programs are carried out on our regular opening days. We also provide internships for graduate students who have set their sights on becoming the next generation Of museum specialist as well as programs directed at corporations and other organizations. Saturday Lectures

Saturday Lectures

The Saturday lectures have been carried out since the Bridgestone Museum of Art opened. The topics focus on fine art but include a wide range of themes related to art and culture, each presented by an expert in that field. We plan to present several series in the course of the year, with each series consisting of about four lectures.

Schedule: While exhibitions are underway, 14:00 to 15:30 on about four Saturdays. (Doors open at 13:30.)

Place: Lecture Room, 3F, Artizon Museum
Number of participants: 80 (application not required; first come, first served)
To attend: On the day of a lecture, the museum will distribute the lecture tickets in front of the lecture room, starting two hours before the lecture is to begin, until the maximum number of participants has been reached. No museum admission ticket is required.
Language: Japanese unless otherwise noted

Gallery Talks
For the General Public

Gallery Talks

Our curators describe and interpret works on display in exhibitions and from our collection. These talks may present new ways of viewing and enjoying exhibitions and art, through considering the context in which a work was created or the artist’s thinking, for example. Please feel free to join in.

Schedule: While exhibitions are underway, at 18:30 to 19:30 on the first Friday of the month and at 15:30 to 16:30 on the third Friday of the month.

Meeting place: 6F Gallery entrance.

To attend: Reservations are not required; join on the day. A museum admission ticket is required.

*If the museum is crowded, the Gallery Talk may be replaced by a lecture with slides in the 3F Lecture Room or be cancelled.

Family Programs
For Families with Elementary-School-Aged Children

Family Programs

Enjoy the museum as a family in this program designed for families with elementary-school-aged children. A variety of activities make it possible to thoughtfully experience and enjoy paintings and sculptures. Participants listen to gallery talks and take part in quizzes and games: both children and adults will make new discoveries while in the museum. Please experience the fascination of paintings and sculptures as a family affair.

Schedule: While exhibitions are underway, at 10:30 to 12:30 on three Sundays.

Participants: Families with elementary-school-aged children. (Elementary-school-aged children may not participate by themselves.)

Fee: Free of charge (but the parent or guardian accompanying a child must have a museum admission ticket).

Number of participants: About five families each time (first come, first served).

For School Groups

School Days and School Programs

Why not visit the museum in a school group? We offer gallery talks and tours of the museum for school groups ranging from day care and kindergarten children to graduate students.

School Days are held on the museum’s regular closing days, when we make the museum available for visits by school groups. School groups can take their time to enjoy the museum on these days, which are reserved for them.​ ​

School Programs are offered on the museum’s regular opening days.

The content of your visit can be customized to suit your group. Interested teachers are invited to discuss possibilities with our Education Department.

To attend: Reservations are required and are available on a first-come, first-served basis.

School Days in 2020: February 3, March 2(cancelled), May 11(cancelled), June 1(cancelled), July 6(cancelled), November 16, and December 7 (all are on Mondays, the museum’s regular closing day). For further information or application, please contact Education Department by e-mail.

These programs, which are directed at educators from elementary school through university levels, will deepen participants’ understanding of our collection and activities. Each program is designed as an opportunity to explore ways to visit museums and to make best use of those visits.

Internships
For Graduate Students

Internships

This program, for graduate students who hope to work in museums in the future, consists of about a year of practical training through supporting activities at the museum. Interns will be involved in our School Programs, Family Programs, Outreach, and other learning programs at the museum.

Who may apply: Graduate students enrolled in graduate schools in the Tokyo area who hope to work in museums in the future. Participation is open regardless of nationality, age, and possession of curatorial credentials in Japan or any other country.

Application period and method: Information will be posted on our Japanese page when recruitment begins.

Recruitment: Once a year (recruitment for fiscal 2020 has ended). Applications will be accepted in Japanese only.

Corporate Programs
